Future Films, With a Nod to the Past

These are some films coming out later this year that I’m excited about seeing. They all happen to be sequels or remakes of popular old books.

Men in Black 3 (May 25)

(Featuring a time jump; Will Smith’s Agent J must travel back to 1969 to save Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent K.)

The Dark Knight Rises (July 20)

(The third (and final) chapter of the trilogy, set eight years after the latest film when Batman took the blame for Two-Face/Harvey Dent’s crimes. Catwoman and the terrorist Bane are introduced.)

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Dec. 14)

(Enough said.)

This Is 40 (Dec. 21)

(The sequel to Knocked Up, but focusing on the characters played by Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann.)

The Great Gatsby (Dec. 25)

(A 3-D adaptation. I’m a fan of the book, but I’m not particularly excited about the casting choices for this film: Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan.)
