Google Drives Cars

California now allows testing of Google’s self-driving cars on the roads, although it is required that a human remain behind the wheel in order to take control of the vehicle at any time if necessary. The autonomous-vehicles bill, SB 1298, will set up procedures and requirements for determining when the cars are ready for the road. Google hopes that self-driving cars will be driving on public streets in less than five years.

Nevada passed a law last year also allowing this testing.
